Excerpt from a conversation I recently had with an older (much older) relative.
"Namaste Uncle"
"Namaste Beta, kya kar rahe ho aajkal?"
"Social Media Marketing uncle"
"Acha! Paani waala kaam"
Didn't get it? Are you thinking, "that's not even funny?"
Well, honestly I didn't get it either and did not think it was funny.
Sadly, that is how people react when it comes to Social Media Marketing. They either mock or mistake it for something else.
So, the next time someone asks you what SMM means or what we do, here are some apt answers to give:
"We sit in front of our phones and laptops 24/7 but we have 245689 messages to respond to, 100+ unopened mails and 25 shows to catch up on"
"We are up to date with every trending meme, new Instagram features, and latest GenZ slang but we don't know aaj ghar pr khane me kya hai"
"We are what makes the social media page of our clients pretty and aesthetic but have days worth of clutter in our brains"
I reckon this would not go well with the elders of the society but you have to make peace with the fact that not all of them would understand what we do. Social Media Marketing, with all its hype, is still very new, it has a long way to go.
But, in case you find someone, who is genuinely curious and would listen, here is something you can start with, "SMM is the next stage of brand recognition, marketing and advertising. It is a tool used to set a direct connection with the customers and create a reputation in public. It also serves as a tool to gain more business at times."
If they understand and tell you they would like to have someone do it for them. You can always direct them to us.
